ARDOCH seeks volunteers

Kylee Bates, CEO of Ardoch Youth Foundation visited me in my office today sand told me about the fantastic work the organisation is doing in linking volunteer classroom helpers and mentors with schools and students.  Ardoch works alongside schools and teachers to help young people – from pre-school to secondary school – gain greater confidence in reading, numeracy, learning generally, and life opportunities. Ardoch places screened and trained volunteers into primary and secondary school classrooms at the request of partner schools to support the teachers.

The volunteers usually work one-on-one with a student or a group of students who need extra help, as directed by the teachers. The volunteer engages them in targeted reading, writing and language exercises aimed at improving their confidence, engagement and interaction with literacy.

Ardoch’s Education Volunteers Program received the Excellence Award at the Volunteering Victoria State Awards 2016.

Ardoch are currently seeking new volunteers for their 2019 program.  If you’d like to apply, or find out more, go to www.ardoch.org.au or call 9537 2414.
