I spoke in parliament about the hidden women’s health problem - endometriosis. One in ten Australian women suffer from this debilitating condition in silence, and some are misdiagnosed or don't seek the medical advice they need for what they believe is just 'period pain' - their lot as a woman.

Added to this are the many cultural and religious attitudes towards a woman’s menstrual cycle with women of CALD backgrounds finding it hard to talk about this condition, let alone seek the medical advice they desperately need.

When I visited Monmia Primary School, I was surprised when the year 5 students asked me about Australia Day and how I felt about the potential date change. I turned to the students and asked them how they felt about it - and set them a little task. For the past fortnight, the students have been conducting an Australia Day survey on their classmates, with the promise that I would present their findings to Federal Parliament.

I gave a speech in parliament about an event I attended hosted by the Lefkadian Cultural Association that highlighted the important contribution Australians of Greek heritage have made in our war efforts. One in particular, gunner James Zampelis whose ancestors came from my home  island of Lefkada.

I made a 90 statement in parliament in which I spoke of the Australian National Flag Day celebration I participated in at Good Samaritan Primary School in Roxburgh Park.

Atrial Fibrillation is a major public health issue, one that not only requires immediate attention but demands it.

I call on the Turnbull Government to take immediate action on the health crisis that is Atrial Fibrillation. I call on the government to give us definite timelines in asking for the recommendations for changes to the Prostheses List and I call on the government to consider this particular lifesaving procedure and add Catheter Ablation to the Prostheses List.

I spoke in parliament about the wonderful local primary schools who are part of the broader Community Hubs network, and of my recent visits to the hubs as well as to Sirius College with Shadow Minister for Schools Andrew Giles.

In the last two weeks we have seen a catastrophe unfold in Myanmar, in the northern Rakhine state, where the Myanmar military have waged an assault on the Rohingya Muslims. An estimated 3,000 Rohingyas have already been killed. Over 350,000 Rohingyas have been forced to flee to Bangladesh with reports of starvation as the distribution of aid has been blocked by Myanmar security forces.

I represent an electorate in which large numbers of people, even if they are fortunate to have jobs, are really struggling to make ends meet. My Calwell constituents need their penalty rates more than ever to pay for their utilities, put food on the table and pay for transport costs like petrol or train fares.
